Microsoft originally announced that backwards compatibility for the XBOX One would be coming this year. However, you’ll be surprised to find that the release for the retro ensemble will be heading to your home tomorrow, October 24th.
A total of 13 games will be making their way to the Xbox One initially. The front runners for the backward compatibility campaign were Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fuzion Frenzy, which were big hits on the original Xbox. Additionally, you’ll also be able to play Ninja Gaiden Black, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Black. Here’s the full list:
- BloodRayne 2
- Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
- Dead to Rights
- Fuzion Frenzy
- Grabbed by the Ghoulies
- The King of Fighters Neowave
- Ninja Gaiden Black
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
- Red Faction II
- Sid Meier’s Pirates
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
If you have a physical copy of the games listed, then you can easily insert them into the disc drive of your latest Xbox, and even if you don’t own them, you can now buy them on the Xbox store and have them downloaded onto your system, ready to trawl through the nostalgia. There is a downside though – Unfortunately, you will not be able to unlock achievements for the 13 games Microsoft have listed, and any original Xbox games that were produced in 2010, won’t feature multiplayer. On a positive note, fusing old technology with new is one of Microsoft’s habits, alas, being able to play titles like Red Faction II, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, all in 1080p (4:3), with higher frame rates.
The next collection of original Xbox games set to be updated and released for the current Xbox ecosystem, won’t hit our bedrooms until Spring 2018. Although, that should give you enough time to sink some hours into these beautiful time pieces.
